My experience at DIFF 2016 was bittersweet as I could not watch any screenings, but I got work as a volunteer for the new department they had launched in 2016- DIFFerent reality.
It is basically a screening of two 10 minute movies one after the other, 6 times a day, every two hours. While the volunteering section only had to deal with the VR audiences and help them with questions they had and to make sure that there is proper decorum, we, as volunteers also got food coupons and tickets to the screening, which unfortunately were of no use as our shifts got over really late at night.
Me and my fellow volunteers also got to meet Kris Fade and Brent Black from Virgin Radio, Dubai, they were really down to earth and made sure that they made me and my friends laugh.
I also got the opportunity to see the Bollywood actor Ranvir Singh right in front of my eyes as he waltzed through the red carpet for the premiere of his movie “Befikre”.
Walking the red carpet to get to our shifts was one amazing experience and made us all feel like celebrities.
First year volunteering at DIFF was full of adventures, running around, taking pictures, talking to people and help them understand the concept of virtual reality, meeting and getting a chance to talk to people who influence the world every single day.
